Interested in any police take on this, but on face of it looks like pretty rum behaviour from the officer that has been rightfully punished?

Unusual aspect is that it was initially prosecuted privately by Crimebodge fella (who I know is not-necessarily popular on here and has an annoying voice) which was then taken over by the CPS.

Also not sure I'd be happy with my barrister suggesting the defendant who had called me a "fat c**t" could have "...done something else, perhaps a punch to (my) corpulent stomach.."
I might just be big boned and got enough stick at the time!!! smile

(Slightly ironic that officer was attending a separate road rage incident) LINK here...

It's an odd route for it to start as a private prosecution, but regardless, it got to the right (assuming there won't be an appeal etc which quashes it) outcome.

At least he didn't claim to be in fear of his life.

Pretty sure this was dismissed by the CPS originally until it was pushed forward by Crimebodge. Complete turnaround.

“The force put the criminal case to the CPS, however, there were further delays due to charging decisions, something outside of the control of the force.

“An initial decision to not charge PC Knight was appealed by the force, as well as by the victim through the formal review process.

“During the point at which this review was being carried out, a private prosecution was brought on behalf of the victim, before the CPS decided to charge the case criminally themselves.”
Looks like there was universal disagreement over the initial CPS decision (well, probably not from Mr Knight...).

Having worked as a doorman for a number of years, I think the Officer is the architect of his own misfortune. The give way here is the headbutt, I've had dozens of times people have wanted to get close enough to head butt and a firm push away stopped it.
For the Officer to be close enough to headbutt, especially given his apparent size means he literally was in the other guys face.
Who knows what triggered this and I have a sneaking suspicion that the victim at the least helped ramp up the situation but being tw&t doesn't mean you deserve a head butt.

A headbutt always comes across as very 'violent' and thuggish, I feel.

Whilst it can be perfectly legal, its one I feel leaves a instinctive negative impression.

Yet the officers own force chose to try and pretend they didn't have a psychopath thug who calls people fat c**ts and head butting like some vile thug.

Just shows how imbedded some police forces with criminals and they didn't think pulling this guy up would be good idea, now they look like tits on a fish../

Independent witnesses saw it,.... it was a cut and dry case of the officer was bang out of order.

The assaulted man was even arrested and chucked in a police van before other officers thought if they let him go it might avoid the case blowing up!

Was the complainant getting anonymous threatening phone calls and if they did could they considered witness intimidation?

An investigation would determine whether the telephone calls mentioned were made.

Besides being witness intimidation would those threatening calls have also been an offence of misuse of telecommunications for harassment or some such?

How can you possibly conclude that when the force have said they appealed the CPS decision (I presume from the file they sent the CPS)?

Apparently the initial decision by the CPS to not charge PC Knight was appealed by the force.

I like the way the police clarified that a headbutt was not a tactical option. laugh

I presume its legit in scotland under the alternative name of "glasgow kiss"?

Was he drug tested to see if it was roid rage? with them mentioning he worked out and was a "unit".

Unlikely with random / 'with cause' drug testing these days.

Must depend on the force. It’s something we would use.

I think if the bodge guy is to be believed it was getting very close to the six month limit which would have prevented any prosecution? Whether this was intentional from the Police/CPS I don't know.
