I asked my 18 year old sister as she knows how the kids talk. tHe RaNdOm CaPiTaLs means you're saying something mockingly. You learn something new every day. I don't like it though. Also, I don't think I've ever seen PH say we've got a good justice system. I think everybody thinks 6 years for such a violent crime is appalling.

I'm not one to stick up for the Police (I generally start that it's their fault and come back from there), but I'm struggling how dealing with that situation on first name terms and with tasers etc would have gone any better with guns and lots of shouting.

It's just about clear you think it's too lenient. 6 years is a significant sentence, i'm not really sure how much better off society or the victim would be with it being 8, 10, 12, 15, 20 years.
If you want a story to get angry about, my brother once knew someone who turned out to be quite unpleasant, he was convicted of domestic violence which included slashing his wife's feet with a kitchen knife, and branding her with an iron.
He was given £2k fine (about what he earned in a week) and would have been given community service, but he was too busy/important so was let off.

It was just a general comment. I think there have been much bigger sentencing anomalies than this one. I think the important point has been made that justice in a civil society is not about revenge. I think it’s also worth making the point that the idea that most offenders are released from prison at 50% or sentence is a myth and if they are then the remainder spent on licence isn’t a total picnic.
6 years is not an inconsequential amount of time.
It doesn’t sound like a lot, as a number, but that’s because time sortof passes quickly when you’re free and unencumbered. Think about how long even one day feels when you’re unwell, discontented or whatever.
I imagine for most of us even 24 hours inside prison would feel like a very long time indeed.
Not making any specific comment about this case, other than the fact that 6 years inside, or even part of that with the rest on licence, is not a trivial amount of time.

The UK has one of the highest incarceration rates in Europe. Much higher than some. Instead of using it as a penalty of last resort, it's almost the second choice. Part of the problem is that the government, all governments, seem to believe that pushing for a more sensible penal system would lose them votes. Who wouldn't vote for 'hard on crime'?
Our penal system needs reform. The government should inform the population about punishment procedures and their effectiveness, rather than playing to the stalls.
For what the offender did, six years seems the norm. I've known worse.
Jail should be kept for those who need to be separated from the rest of us. It should be used to cut recidivism. There are alternatives to incarceration as a punishment. There are examples, many of them, and not so far away, of penal systems than work better than ours does.

But for me at least I’m less interested in reform than I am in protecting scum like him from the general public.
Perhaps he could stay inside til reformed. Give the bd a bit of incentive.
