Is this towing situation legal?

Saw this photo on FB and just wondered whether it’s legal to tow a Defender with a Cayenne? No horse in this race at all, just something I’m intrigued by.

Only if it's a breaked trailer. Otherwise, not a chance.

A Cayenne can tow 3.5 ton like most 4x4s. A Defender is ~2.2 ton, and the trailer probably under 0.5 ton.
It'd be much dodgier if the Defender was on the back of a 3.5 ton Beavertail, but would probably "look" more normal.

The drivers license might be another issue, and of course if they are delivering for someone else it gets a lot messier.

Thanks all, just looked strange to my untrained eye. The guy is running a vehicle transport company using the Cayenne so I'm assuming the licence and weight restrictions are all above board

Thats a 110 I think? - so about 2300kg, those trailers will add 700kg, so it would need to be a braked trailer. If its a commercial operation I would expect that he knows what he is doing.

Just checked my logbook and it states 4000kg braked for my cayenne of the same era. Max train weight and tachographs may come into play though.

Hire or reward needs a tachograph, a mate has one fitted in a Disco 4 pulling a Brian James triaxle trailer for car deliveries

Hmm, interesting, I had thought 3500kg was the max for road cars?

a bit of browsing the gov web site and I'm no clearer.. I've found:

- to tow over 3500kg You have to pass the car and trailer driving test

but

- to take your trailer test, your car MUST have 4 wheels and a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of no more than 3,500kg (so not the Cayenne then)

My mistake you’re absolutely right. Was looking at the wrong bit.

Which is however confusing as G is the weight of the car and the 6750kg is the maximum train weight.

Strange choice of vehicle to be using to deliver vehicles with though. Consumables are eye watering
