I know we often joke about freeman of the land, but I think this is the first time I’ve heard it used genuinely in a situation! Albeit a freewoman of the land instead of freeman

Not looked into it myself but heard new Covid laws in Scotland mean they can enter a property if they have reasonable belief there are too many people there, apparently.

You do know there are powers of entry in England that don't require a warrant too?

I did love that once the kids join in and it all kicks off mum suddenly starts crying about all her kids ailments.... If you were that worried you wouldn't haven't played up in the first place surely?

I don’t think she is claiming to be a a Freeman. Doesn’t she say “I’m the woman of this land”? I figured it’s just a weird way to say she owns the property.

I can understand why she would be upset about the police barging into her house, and it’s not clear from that clip what probable cause they had.

I’m not criticising the police, I just think this thread is a little unfair on her.

I just don’t get these situations at all.

If you’ve nothing to hide and the police come knocking at your door asking to check, then if that’s me I simply say ‘sure, come in and take a look- there’s no one else here’.

I just can’t imagine a situation where I get all worked up enough for it to result in that outcome - unless of course I’ve something to hide.

It is her disproportionate anger towards them from the start that heightens suspicion and makes her look guilty of something.

That’s where she went wrong. If only she had withdrawn implied right of access a la tv licence protestors, by using the correct wording “I am a freewoman of the land”, she would have been afforded protection as per magna carta 1066.

You hope he loses his job for doing his job?

The police have a report that someone is breaking the law, they enter the property having reasonable suspicion that the law is being broken, and the person in the house becomes unnecessarily aggresive which only increases suspicion.

If this was a report of someone being murdered, would you have the same response, or are we just working on the principle that we should only follow laws that we think should be in place?

The mother is being an idiot unreasonable but the officer with the hi-viz is equally as bad, he should have been calmer. From the longer video it sounds like the daughter put her hands on his neck?

This situation was getting a bit out of hand on both sides as far as I could see but I would tend to side with the woman.

This emergency powers during lockdown is getting to close to creating a police state in my opinion.

I'm a fairly placid guy in general but I do think the younger police officers nowadays are getting a bit to self important and think they have powers that they don't actually

Agree 100%. The police were very fair in my opinion, she was being very stupid.

The video doesn’t really help a whole lot, impossible to properly tell what going on and most of that 4 minutes is just shrieking and wailing and arguing.

Again, if they had nothing to hide in the first place - cooperate with the police like any reasonable human being would and you avoid this entire situation.

I'm of the opinion that it's easier and quicker to get through these things by cooperating. If there was no one inside then the Police could've gone in and found that out very quickly, and been on their way.

Other people though, for various reasons, go nuclear at the flip of switch as soon as there is even the slightest suggestion that they might have done something wrong, or that the Police want to check something out.

At the end of the day I'm one of those people, maybe in a minority, that would rather pass the atttiude test and get on with my day - maybe gritting my teeth a bit - than create a massive ruckus and blow what could be a simple thing out of all proportion.
