Personally I think prosecuting the driver of the red car is over the top. At most a telling-off for hanging the white car out to dry would be justified.
I think it’s fair. The Focus was..
1. Tailgating the Twingo through the RAB.
2. Cut up the police car.
3. Undertook the Twingo while two lanes were merging.
4. Left the Twingo out to dry when the Renault had priority.
5. Straight up to tailgate the next vehicle.
6. All to get just one car ahead in line of traffic?!
At the very least it’s discourteous, rude and inconsiderate driving, smacks of self entitlement. Odds are the driver often pulls manoeuvres like this, just this time they got caught out by not noticing the police car behind. Ultimately their driving caused unnecessary risk to other motorists, so I think it’s fair they are reported for careless driving. We forever harp on about poor standards of driving in this country and the lack of police to enforce things, so something like this shouldn’t be let off the hook just because no collision occurred.

- using a hand-held mobile phone or other hand-held electronic equipment when the driver was avoidably distracted by that use (note that this is an offence itself under Regulation 110 Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) (No. 4) Regulations 2003). If this is the only relevant aspect of the case it is more appropriate to use the specific offence;
- selecting and lighting a cigarette or similar when the driver was avoidably distracted by that action.

My thoughts were - maybe the Police should concentrate on the people doing 40 past primary schools at 3pm instead of wasting time prosecuting someone for something so flippin trivial. At most a quick word and send them on their way.
Honestly all they would have to do is park up and wait outside the school and they'd catch 10s or more per school run, but do they? Ever? Not where I live. Then they post crap like this on twitter as ask for opinions? Yeah, my opinion is do something useful about school-run speeders and double-yellow parkers that might actually save a child from being injured or worse, then brag about that on Twitter (if you must) and you'd have my support.

It's all about safety and priority. Was it safe for the red car to come up on the inside? No. The white car driver wouldn't expect a careful and competent driver to do that. Was it necessary? No. Did the car in front have priority? Yes. For undertaking the left arrow came up first for the white car. Whenever I see such a sign on the road, I believe it is my responsibility to adjust my speed accordingly to find a space between cars on the left. So the red car driver is in the wrong, their actions were perfectly avoidable had they done an ounce of forward planning, and deserve to be reported for their inconsiderate driving.
