Court report What to charge?

A colleague of mine has been asked to prepare a report for a court case.

She is a therapist and pretty new to the profession.

What is the going rate for things like this?

Sorry it’s pretty light on detail, it’s all the info I have.

Is it too obvious to suggest normal hourly rate x number of hours to prepare?

Too many variables to be honest based on the information given, she would probably be well advised to try and find out what others in a similar profession charge because different professions will be able to charge different amounts based on how freely available their skill set is in terms of someone else providing the same report.

Your friend should also be aware that if she provides a report for court she may be required to go to court and present her report as evidence to the court which she may look to charge a further fee for.

I could go into more detail as I have written numerous expert reports for court but my field of expertise is I believe very different from your friends and as you don't stipulate what type of court it is my knowledge may be irrelevant anyway. I don't personally charge a fee directly for my reports as it is part of my job so it is included in my salary.

Her professional organisation would be the ones to contact. No doubt they will have experience plus guidance for anyone in similar circumstances. Level of expertise, specialisation, responsibility for actions and content, format for her report, contacts for advice.
Most, if not all, professional bodies would cover this somehow.
