Insurance NCD

I have two lots of NCD, one which I've had since I were a lad which is on my main car.

The other has 3yrs on it from when I had a Westfield, I sold this last July but I'm now toying with getting another car.

Is there an Industry Standard for how long NCD remain valid without actually being in use?
