Wrong photo re: Speed cameras

Hi All,

A few weeks ago I received a speeding fine through the post. I didnt agree with the speed I was going, so I requested photographic evedence from the camera unit as proof.
This came in the post this morning and sure, there was a photo of my car, taken by what looks like a speed camera on the opposite side of the road, BUT nowhere near where they say the alleged incident took place. I know this for a fact as I live near to the camera they say took the photo. Its definately not that one.
Im trying to track down where the photograph was actually taken. My question is what grounds ( if any ) do you think I have to challenge this 'false' evidence?

The photograph states the car was doing 36mph, I also see a 40mph sign about 20 yds further along the road although its the sign usually posted when your leaving one speed limit zone and about to enter another so there is a chance that I was doing 36mph in a 30mph zone and, if thats the case then fair enough. My point being they claim I was speeding in one place when in effect I was in a totally different place.. Im not sure how that affects the status of their claim.. Ive emailed the camera unit and I'll await their reply. ( I also found out the speed cameras can catch you both ways..I didnt realise this ).

Depends on which camera they use, the traditional GATSO doesn't.

Wait 14 days from the date of the alleged offence, then reply to the S172 notice stating that you were not at that location on that time and date?
You can't identify the driver at that time if you/they were not there.

You need to clarify what you have actually received through the post.

If it's a fine, then it's over and done with.

Maybe you have 2nd little present on the way to you and they've muddled the photos up

WRT to the signs, it's a 30 until you're past the 40 sign, technically, although as you describe it, that's a pedantic, bd place to put a speed camera. But unfortunately, the rules are the rules.
