Paper driving license - updating details

I have a question regarding the old style paper driving license for anyone old enough to know what they are.

I have lived at the address printed on it for 30+ years and have just moved.
There is also a typo on my first name which ideally would be corrected at the same time.

I have tried doing it online but the typo on my first name is stopping it from working, have tried ringing DVLA several times but there is a message to say they are far too busy and to clear off.

On the reverse side of the said paper license there is a facility to both correct the name typo (New Name option) and change of address (New Address option) so on the face of it I could just fill it in, post it and see what happens.

Has anyone ever tried doing anything similar, because I can see it getting lost for good and never being able to get through to DVLA to get another license. I can't see them doing anything other than providing me with a photocard license because that is how it is now, but what are the chances of it happening?

Any thoughts or input welcome.

Send it in with a covering letter explaining what needs changing..keep a copy of your licence though

I assume (maybe wrongly )when you apply for a new driving licence they will send you a photocard licence and seeing as you have moved house this is what you will get .I would try e mail first to find out and if no reply within say 3 weeks go to a post office and get a form to fill in for a new licence and send it recorded delivery etc so you will have proof it has been delivered .
We still have our paper ones and mine still has an sp30 speeding fine on it from nearly 26 years ago which I never sent in to get removed .

I think that will be your only choice at the moment. They'll send you out another form to sign, add your passport number and another passport style photo, mail it back and your new photo licence will appear about 3-4 weeks later. I've just gone from old style 22 year old paper to photo licence.
You can go onto the gov.uk website and make sure they have your correct details on there, screenshot it and photocopy the old licence before you send it away (so you have proof if you lose any entitlements)

According to Gov website if you want to change your name at the same time as your address then it must be done by post - there is no option to do it online.

Just out of interest, why did you not have the typo in your name corrected at the time? I had to have mine on the old style paper licence corrected too, and did it immediately.
