It is an offence to use or keep an unlicensed vehicle ie you don't have to be driving it for an offence to be complete.

Backdating VED doesn't alter that.

You 'forgot' go tax your car, you got caught, pay up - simples. Oh and tax the car.

I was driving through Birmingham on the A38 and the street given is a small side street, so I was close by, but not on the street stated on the letter or in the postcode either.

I've taxed the car now of course, the letter says the offence still stands after taxing it though. However, the tax is apparently effective from 1st of the month so wouldn't the car now have been retroactively taxed when the offence occurred?
