I don't know about the legality of the officer's actions, but I sounds like a good way of getting your attention.

Must admit though, I am curious as to whether an officer is entitled to enter private property and damage a vehicle in this way? Presumably the answer is yes.
Nevertheless- silly number plate, no sympathy!

OP has already said they have evidence. Cop said he saw it on the road. Job jobbed!

Depending on how badly you pissed the cop off, they may well notify DVLA and ask for the registration to be revoked too. Then you get a Q plate - good luck selling the car with that.

It normally takes three strikes before a plate is revoked and if so it will be reissued with the original number.
