I purchased a 20 month old 4k mile used Jaguar F Pace from a JLR Main Dealer Dec 2020. They had owned the car from new and I was informed the car would be fully inspected and fit for purpose prior to collection.
It has now come to light that the dealer did not carry out the 12 month service - they thought it sufficient to carry it out 8 months later Dec 20 - I believe this has more than likely voided the Manufacturers warranty - anyone else experienced anything similar?

You believe it has voided the warranty or you have had it confirmed it has voided the warrranty?? I'd check directly with JLR first.

Just ask them for a statement from Jaguar (not the franchise dealer) that the warranty remains unaffected.

Fully inspected and fit for purpose does not necessarilly mean it was serviced at 12 months old.

It depends on the engine. Petrol and 3l diesels require annual services but for the 2l diesel the first service is at 24 months.

^ This.

Not sure you need to be worried at this point. Especially with Corona, many services have been allowed to be pushed back.

Ask your dealer and go from there.

Buying from a main dealer and they fact it was their own car, I guessan ex demo, I think most people would expect it to mean that

I have no idea what "fit for purpose" means in that context. Perhaps the OP has paraphrased what was said by the selling dealer?

Did the supplying dealer use the "approved" thing ... https://www.jaguar.co.uk/approved-used/index.html

This highlights a problem with franchised dealers selling cars which are of the franchised brand but which don't meet the requirements of the manufacturers "approved used" scheme. It's not always obvious whether any given car falls into the scheme or not, so assuming that, for example, a two year old vehicle being sold through the appropriate franchise will automatically be "approved" and have the relevant manufacturer-backed warranty is a risky decision.

In particular, the dealer I was looking at (Kia) didn't even seem to think it was an issue and that I should buy and trust that they'd sort out any problems down the line.

I didn't, not that I would have anyway following the test drive.

This practice doesn't stop at cars sold through franchised dealers either but many largescale 'reputable' indies too.

It never ceases to amaze me how many folks buy 1 or 2 year old ex rental vehicles from the likes of Motorpoint et al the majority of which invariably have little or no service history yet they will be sold with full service history (i.e. serviced late by Billy mobile in house lol i.e. the oil might be changed and thats it )and with 'full manufacturers warranty' i.e. if anything goes wrong go to the main dealer and tell them Motorpoint or similar sent you.

What could possibly go wrong lol. rolleyes

I had similar when I was looking at buying a Mercedes last year. Had already put a deposit down and in my excitement forgot to check the service history at the main dealer. Assumed because it was an approved used car it would all be fine etc. Prior to collection saw that the car had not had it's first service so wouldn't officially qualify for the remainder of it's warranty. At least they returned my full deposit.

Go back to the supplying dealer and say that you believe that the warranty will be void. They will almost certainly provide a letter from JLR stating that the warranty is unaffected.

If you bought the car at 4k miles, it travelled very little distance in the time between service due and service performed. The service was due mid-lockdown 1, many things got delayed to some extent. No one will be in the slightest bothered, when you sell the car.

Lots of first services were put back a few months because of Covid, don't worry about it.

You may be right to be concerned. My experience a few years back was that the JLR manufacturer warranty is provided by a warranty company not by JLR. If you contact JLR they may well ( as in my case) have Zero interest in talking to you and will tell you to speak to the 3rd party that provided the JLR warranty.

The 3rd party will look for any excuse to not pay out. In my case my car had 11 months JLR warranty Remaining but pretty much nothing was covered as my XJR had reached 60k miles which JLR considered ‘end of life mileage’ . Shocking that JLR have so little faith in the longevity of their product.

Its still going strong at 240k miles but it put me off getting another Jag when I replace my car in the next few months.

Many people believe the World is flat, and that Donald Trump won the 2020 Presidential election - Doesn't mean it's true.

The first thing to do, even before seeking the advice of random strangers on the internet (myself included), is to get in touch with the selling dealer, and check with them exactly what the situation with the warranty is.

Chances are, you're worrying over nothing, and, other people's experiences are no guarantee of what will happen in your case.

You're nowhere near that stage yet!

Get in touch with the dealer, stay calm, be polite, don't go shouting the odds off from the start, convinced that you've been screwed over, before the dealer has even said or done anything, and find out what the actual situation is.

While I don't doubt your story, JLR definitely don't consider 60k miles to be end of life mileage. It is (or used to be, anyway) the end of warranty mileage. Warranties generally cover a stated timespan or a maximum mileage, whichever is the sooner - that's common across the industry unless stated unlimited mileage.

Any JLR product of the last 10-15 years at least, and possibly longer, will have been designed and tested to achieve at least 150k miles of constant abnormal use, in common with much of the rest of the industry - which is why your car has gone on to do you proud til 240k miles of (presumably, usually and commonly) largely normal use, and will probably do good service for someone else when you sell it.

FWIW my local BMW dealer said that they are accepting 'late oil service' as late as 10000 miles as 'Full History' due to Covid. Fret not.

I notice the OP has not come back with a response to Cowbit about the type of engine. If a 2.0 diesel it was actually serviced early......
