Penalty points for cyclists..?

I received a letter this morning claiming that I went through a red light on my bicycle and apparently I can "deal with it by a fixed penalty of £100 and the endorsement of 3 penalty points on your license".
Is this correct? As far as I'm aware, riding a bicycle does not require a licence and the brief research I have done online confirms this. Has anything changed that I need to know or will I now have to contest the matter?
If I do have to contest the matter, what would be the best course of action?

As above really how did they know it was you?
But yes you can get a fine and points for breaking the law on a bike or scooter you don’t need a licence and they can put 3 points on a licence even if you don’t have one if you got one it would come with them on. This has happened to joy riding youths or people on those electric scooters.

Yes, you can receive motoring penalties on a bicycle (though only for offences which apply to vehicles rather than motor vehicles).
If you don't have a driving licence then they can put them on a shadow licence.
This is the same process as for driving without a licence, or overpowered ebikes, (or recently e-scooters)...
I can't see why people would object to this. While penalties should be adjusted for risk, so reduced for cyclists, but licence points should be about future prevention, not penalty so really shouldn't be considered for this. If you aren't following the rules on one mode of transport you probably won't follow them on another... (Or put another way, I applaud idiots on bikes; at least they aren't driving cars!)

How did they know it was you? What actual evidence do they have?
As has already been said, you can get points and they either go on your driving licence or on a shadow one if you don't have a driving licence.
Why are these types of threads always like pulling teeth?

I very much doubt the letter was unexpected.
