Caught speeding, what to expect?

Almost certainly just been caught out doing 70-75 on a dual carriageway which usually national speed limit.
However since covid there has been a temporary 40 limit due to one of the slip roads off sometimes getting backed up with traffic.
To start with this was just some 40mph signs placed at the side of the road with the NSL sign still in place. Since then they've added some electronic signs that flash "40" when you go over 40, I hadn't noticed if they've removed the NSL sign yet or if it's still in place.
Of course just following the limit would be the sensible thing to do but outside of rush hour the 40mph limit seems a bit over the top, so many people just carry on doing 70 as they always have.
Today there was what looked like a mobile speed camera mounted on a tripod. And another plod up further up the road with pen and notepad.
What's the likely outcome of this, I'm guessing it may not be just 3 points and a fine for 30+ over the "limit".

Does anyone know what the likelihood of it actually going to court is with the covid situation?
Will they take into account that this road is a dual carriageway and usually has a speed limit of 70? A lot of people ignore the 40 signs and I'm guessing this is why they had a speed trap there in the first place. This is the first time I've ever seen a camera on that road in over a decade.

normally the car up the road is to pick you up then and there, so they probably either missed you or the 40 limit might actually be advisory and they were enforcing the national speed limit.
Normally, although OP says that they were up the road with a notepad and pen. You’ll get a NIP within 14 days of the offence. Assuming you are the registered keeper of the vehicle etc.
Personally I’d wait until I get anything. If I did I’d then speak to AGTLaw.

If the person with the speed gun can't read the plate them self then it's no good them radioing a person saying write down the plate of the next silver astra you see in the middle lane, there is a fair chance they'll get the right one, there is a fair chance they'll read the plate right, and there is a fair chance they'll write down what they read but that is now several sources of error. If you drive a common car in a common colour there is likely all manor of similar cars with number plates that are 1 digit different. I've done it once paying for a toll where i mis-typed my plate and it came up as same make same colour so i clicked yes and paid it.
Fixed cameras and camera vans take photos as evidence, without that it would be very difficult to prosecute, the registered keeper can reasonably ask to see photos to help identify the driver, or to see any identifying marks that might indicate it was a ringer, or simply to show it was thier car registration and not human errors.
If they stop you and give you an NIP on the spot these issues mostly go away.

I’ve issued thousands of tickets for speeding. Never taken a photo of the car. It’s not hard to prosecute without photos. If they stop you and give you an NIP on the spot these issues mostly go away.
The way the OP mentioned the notepad and pens was as if they were writing it down as he went past. I’m well aware that they’ll need a pen and notepad to write tickets...(although a lot of forces use mobiles now).

I think you have got away with it, unless there is issues with siting stuff, a camera van would normally be used to enforce in a place like that. As others have said, a chase or catch car would most often be used with a temp tripod. Keep your head down for 14 days. How could you stand up in court and say yes that's definitely the car I identified?
Thanks for the input everyone, it would be nice to think I got away with it but local plod social media reported 150 drivers caught that day, and some of the comments even mention the temporary lowered speed limit.
However I have heard that within 10 minutes of me going past they were gone, and I was not pulled over further up the road. Tripod was still set up as I went past, so I'm hoping they were packing up, but I suspect the guy with the pen and paper still took details.
Typical that I'd have missed it if I was a few minutes later.
