Book Copyright 1970s / Writer or Author ?

( Ps my mistake, Title should say “ Writer or Publisher “ )
My Late Dad wrote a book, which was published in 1974, with just 2,000 copies being run off.
Dad sadly passed away aged just 41, in 1975.
The books publisher ( a pal of his ) passed away many years ago. His publishing and business must have been closed before or on his death, as there is no trace of it now.
My Mum is still with us, guessing copyright passed to her on Dads death in 1975 ?
There was “ probably “ a contract drawn up, before the book was published, but we don’t have a copy and have no way of obtaining one.
One of my Sons and I, wish to get Dads book re printed, anyone know legally where we stand ?
