Looking for some help/advice regarding taxing a new (to me) car.

I bought a car from a main dealer on 27/5, that is the date of sale/transfer on the V5C2/2.
It was delivered to me (on trade plates) and parked on the my drive (off road) on the 28/5.
I now wish to tax it from 1/6.

The problem is that between 27/5 and 1/6, I owned it but it was neither SORNed or taxed, even though it never went on the road.

I did try to SORN it when it was delivered, but as I didn't have the V5 it couldn't be done online, and a letter wouldn't have worked as I now want to tax it only 3 days later.

Should I tax it back to the beginning of May (not even sure you can do this as the beginning of June just come up automatically.) to solve the problem? Obviously don't want to tax it for a whole month when I never used it.

Have tried phoning DVLA for an answer but they are too busy/lazy/incompetent to talk to me (and have the excellent excuse of blaming everything on covid.)

If I now just tax it from the 1/6 will it come back to bite me that I owned it for 3 days neither taxed or SORNed?

All advice and help gratefully appreciated, thanks.

I bought a motorbike last Thursday, 27th, it's been in my shed since and taxed it this morning with no problems.

Seems strange that you couldnt sorn it, I bought an old 350 Suzuki a few weeks ago, the keeper transfer was done online and I sorned it the next day using the new keeper slip

Yes, you should have been able to SORN it to using the V5C new keeper supplement. Had you done so however you would not have been able to tax it online for I think 7 days so would have had to go to the post office to tax it.
I very much doubt there would ever be any comeback whatsoever however if there was you could just explain the situation I'm sure it will be fine

Just had another look and it appears you can indeed SORN it using the V5C/2. Not quite sure why I couldn't do it like that earlier. Probably operator error!
Anyway, all sorted now, thanks.
