I'm rigorously careful to adhere to 10%+1.5 so you may imagine how surprised I was to receive a FPN for 80mph on the m5 (J16-17), I guess as that section is downhill I just wasn't careful enough. You live and learn...
Motorway was average although that section was quiet (Below are the pictures which to my mind show a car decelerating as I'm not in the yellow lines)
Calibration certificates are below and I think given the check was dated Jan 21 they may be out of date.
I am incredibly keen not to get 3 points but I had a speed awareness course two years ago so this is very likely (per the feds) to be an option.
Has anyone any experience in contesting an offence of this nature

The calibration certificate is valid until October this year. The January dates are the calibration expiry dates of the equipment used to test the camera.
The calibration was carried out in October last year using test equipent that was also calibrated and within their calibration validity.
Anyway, even if the equipment is out of its calibration period it is assumed to be working unless you can prove it isn't so an out-of-date calibration certificate isn't a "loophole" - and as the equiment was within calibration anyway that's a non-starter.

What defence do you you think you may have? The images you have posted seem be in order, Why do think the calibration certificate is out of date? 79 is the minimum speed for prosecution if the guidelines are followed.
Don't forget it is the cameras showing you at 79mph that gets you a ticket and there will be an allowed uncertainty for the calibration. For example the lti2020 is +/-2mph so it is perfectly legitimate for one to show you at 79 when you are really at 77mph. You are after all still speeding.79 is the minimum speed for prosecution if the guidelines are followed.
I don't know the allowed uncertainty on the average cameras is, they should be much better than a hand held device, but i wouldn't assume you are good at 78mph as you don't know how accurate your reading is either.
Interesting that they send you pics of your car speeding from two different cameras. I just thought you'd get an imagine from the camera that actually caught you. Is the second image just a camera shot from another location or is that also a speed camera?

A National Speed Awareness Course is not the same as a National Motorway Awareness Course.If you attended the former within the past 3 years, it shouldn't prevent you from attending the latter.
OP - bottom line:
If you were doing 80mph, take the fine. Don't faff about trying to claim calibration issues as you'll likely only end up losing.
Driving at limit + 10% + 1.5mph only allows you 0.5 mph before you get hit......speedos tend to over-read but this is still risky IMO if you're going downhill, lose concentration for a minute or similar.
Wind it down a few mph - if your speedo was covered, you would hardly know the difference to journey time.

The second camera is there to show the speed limit display at the relevant gantry.Personally I feel for you OP (and for the rest of us).

They do provide useful early warning that a speed camera is located at the next gantry.
