This is a pet project from a couple of new councillors who (despite local opposition) will not waver, debate or discuss alternatives.
It is proposed to reduce the speed limit from 60mph to 50mph on a stretch of road that is historically safe, well maintained, free-flowing and with excellent visibility.
If you use this stretch of road and disagree with the proposal (60mph -> 50 mph) please do fill out the consultation feedback. It literally takes 2 minutes.

Same councillor has posted on the village forum that he’s meeting the transport secretary with a view to asking for speed averaging cameras on that stretch.
He’s absolutely convinced speeding is the one and only cause of accidents and must be reduced at all costs.

I’d love to know the cost of these vanity projects to the public purse.
Most if not all speed anomalies will have been cleaned up over the many decades since speed limits were introduced.
Any new proposals should have a high bar of plausibility to get over before it starts costing the public money

Of course it is the ONLY answer councils know, also heavily uninfluenced by the speed enforcement profits that will come with it that pays for itself within months. To be frank I would not ride a pushbike on the A40 and I think you are entering a world of danger if you do, but that never bothers councils.
On the plus side isn't it always a traffic infested nightmare anyway so hopefully this will ot be as bad

Page3, you sound local as I have a feeling I know the local residents page you're referring to.
I was under the impression he was actually shooting to reduce the limit from West Wycombe to Studley Green to 40mph, which to be honest would be a collosal pain in the rear when towing the race car. I generally use the flat bit before the Dashwood Arms as a run up to get up the hill without crawling by the time I get to the top.

It seems all councils are the same now and they do what they want. Where I live they have tried to reduce limits and there are hardly no NSL left.
There is one that goes to Wickwar, where they allowed new homes to be built and then set about reducing the limit. They succeeded on part of it reducing the limit to 40 then a few feet later 30.
To enforce this they have installed 5 or 6 huge speed tables which are so high that you cannot go over at anywhere near the set limit, even in my truck as they are so steep.
They have effectively now got a 15mph limit.

They have carried out so many consultations using flawed data and even when not supported by the police or Fire and Ambulance service these councillors know best, when clearly they do not

I've seen countless posts on PH where people accuse the police/councils/whoever of implementing speed control measures for revenue raising purposes.
I don't remember ever seeing one post where someone says "I used to work for xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx where we openly discussed where to place cameras to make the most money."
Given the breadth of experience and knowledge on PH, if it were true, I would expect to have seen this by now.

Just to update…
The perpetrator of this has been boasting on our community forum that it’s now all been signed off. He again tried to tie it in with the recent accident there, but was shot down by the family of those involved who said speed was not a factor and that other approaches would be better.
Our MP did write against the plan, but it was a full gone conclusion.
The councillor and the instigator are now going to push for 40mph and speed averaging cameras. Apparently it’s for our own good and any discussion to the contrary is considered as personal attacks.

I got that bloke grovelling in my inbox after I challenged him on calling me a waste of digital ink for assuming from my profile picture I wasn't interested in road safety. My profile picture is me performing a burnout as a registered and licenced racer, at a licenced track and also being a big backer for taking it to the track not the street.
