72% drivers want lower motorway speed limit in wet weather

French motorway limit reduces from 130 km/h (81 mph) to 110 km/h (68 mph) in wet conditions. Most British drivers want to follow this precedent but with lower limits - 68 mph is just too fast.
"Of 2,100 drivers surveyed, a third (33%) said the limit should be reduced to 60mph in the wet, while 7% think it should be cut to 65mph. Seventeen per cent of drivers would like an even lower limit of 55mph or even 50mph, while 14% would like to see the limit cut but aren’t sure by how much."

But then drops to 70 in the wet?
72% of drivers can't tell their arse from their elbow, besides, 72% of grannies and green-eco mentalists isn't much of a case study.

I’ve had fairly clear M ways before M40 as it happens 15-20mph was the max that was safe - heavy snow that any faster you simply couldn’t see anything.
Sadly the overwhelming majority of people in the UK appear unable of doing anything sensible unless it’s a law, or presented to them as such. I’ve had fairly clear M ways before M40 as it happens 15-20mph was the max that was safe - heavy snow that any faster you simply couldn’t see anything.
Hence high speed pile ups when it’s very foggy or there’s black ice.
