When I was in the Navy we had parade every morning at 06:30 and woe betide you if you were slacking. These 'police' would not pass for a scarecrow!!!!!!!!!!

When the salary is st, the shifts are st, the work is st and the customers are st then you have to lower your standards to attract recruits.

Good luck to them I say, I wouldn't do it for twice the money

It also seems to be a bit of contest to see how many kgs of gear and accessories you can attach to your utility belt and stab vest. No wonder the crims outrun them on foot.

A relative is an officer, last week due to lack of numbers they were put on 12 hour shifts and had leave cancelled for the foreseeable. He’s had a number of shift changes in the last few years and in the last one lost 20 or so rest days which means he works 20 days more than the year before and receives no extra pay for this.

In one day a few years ago he went to two deaths, one of them a child. Went to a serious RTC, went to a robbery and then attended a violent burglary where they were lucky enough to get there in time to apprehend the suspect but unlucky enough to be assaulted by the same.

He’s a normal bloke with a family and he would do anything to help anyone, soft as a mouse. However, for a number of years he has worked single crewed on nights in an area plagued with firearms, knives and lots of organised criminals. If there is an emergency, he is the guy you want.

I couldn’t care less what he looks like because he could have come from something shocking to help. That something shocking would leave most of us unable to sleep.

Why are people hung up on how someone looks?

The st has hit the fan and you’ve got no choice but to call 999. Help gets there to stop you being assaulted or worse and you’re complaining about how they look.

Lots of officers are dheads but the majority of them are not and regardless of background I would challenge anyone to go and work a few years as a response officer on nights, alone.

I’m sure he posts on here.

It's an interesting one isn't it given recent tragic events.

"999 what's your emergency?"

"There's a bloke with a shotgun killing people. He needs stopping. Please don't send anyone with tattoos."

Like the episode where the officer was unable to chase a subject due to not eating all day because of religion
Not fit for for duty basically

I don't think the blokes on Police Interceptors do many foot chases.

I don’t get how someone looks effects how someone does the job.

I’ve got tattoos. I have a beard. My boots aren’t always polished due to the area I work. I’m still bloody good at my job (slightly big headed I know).

I do my best for everyone I deal with. I’ve had one complaint about my appearance but he didn’t like that he got a ticket for using his phone and to be fair I did look like st at the time as my trousers were ripped at the pocket and I was waiting for some new ones.

Yep, that’s one thing you’ll never see on sailors - tattoos.

bks. I do intermittent fasting for health reasons, it does not render you ‘unfit for duty’.

I'm sure it would be frowned upon but I'd have got extra satisfaction handing that ticket over. smile

How many times in the Navy did you end up rolling around on the floor with someone (not for pleasure..) knee deep in kebab sauce? How much of your own kit did you have to buy yourself?
Different services, different standards. Don’t be such a judgemental arse. Frontline plod do a difficult job in difficult circumstances. A lot of the time they look like crap because the issued kit is substandard junk.

Sounds like another thread started by a sad old curtain twitcher with nothing much to do except find fault in others.

What a load of old ste. My workmate is covered in them and he got them all during his stint in the Navy.
Also - 06:30 start is a lie in for some so I wouldn't brag about that hehe
