They've actually got a photo of him driving past an unobstructed speed limit sign, but his defence was the signs were obstructed.

Some people have more money than sense.

What an entitled tt, shows his character when he goes in person to try and defend it and probably took zero advice, had he have done any half decent lawyer would have said don’t bother, they will have evidence of you right in front of an unobstructed sign

To be fair he has a point when it comes to the numbers caught speeding. If 9,000 people in a month are speeding in the same location something would appear to be wrong.

Is this news? Also why is the car relevant?

What do you imagine that might be? The A1 has 50mph limits peppered up and down it's length, all of them well advertised with both speed and camera signs. It's difficult see anything wrong, apart from with the 9,000 drivers that is.

No it doesn’t, it just shows their are 9000 people a month who ignore the signs or are are just plain stupid

It implies limit is too low.
Still no excuse for complaining you are caught exceeding it though.

And that’s only an average of about 12 offences per hour.
Some would be exceeding 70, that’s for sure, so whether the signs say 50 or 30, and whether there’s one sign or a thousand signs, those people will still receive that letter.

Me? There’s no joy in speeding on motorways and dual carriageways. None at all. And your average speed over the whole journey is rarely much higher. So I just don’t do it.

But more than that, when I travel from Suffolk to Co Durham I don’t even use the A1! I head to Thetford, Kings Lynn, Humber bridge etc. Takes 30 minutes longer than a clear run on the A1. And that never happens!

Don’t be daft, the limit is normally 70, it was a temporary 50 section through roadworks

Looks like a temporary concrete divider on the left which would mean roadworks - hence the 50 limit. Sounds like he was basing his speed on the 10%+2 guideline which for some reason wasn't allowed for here.

If he was, he was cutting it too fine! Even on cruise control speed fluctuates very slighlty.

Prosecution guideline is action starts at 10%+2mph over the limit, not after that point.
So action did start at the point the guidelines indicate.

He's an idiot. Every speedo in every car I've ever had reads high. He'll have seen the needle at at lease 60mph and probably higher.
