Earlier this year I paid about £900 to insure my XJR. But I just did another quote on Go Compare with the exact same car and details (I was really bored) and now my cheapest price is £2,362.

What gives? I understand that UK insurance is extortionate for people my age (18), but what could cause it to get more expensive if I haven't changed anything?

You're right, poor title. Not really a problem, just curious why this is.

Market & discounts change.
For instance, the price can vary widely across the 28 days leading up to renewal date.

There might have been a spate of XJR driving 18 year olds making claims, since you took out your policy, which has now skewed the risk profile for that group.

How the hell are you only paying £900 on an XJR at 18?

For most people your age even a Toyota Aygo would be well over £1000. £2362 sounds more realistic.

Don't even bother looking at quotes again until you need to (about 3/4 weeks prior to renewal). If they're still really high again you'll need to speak to brokers etc and still might end up paying a higher premium, but if no incidents in your year of owning it then you might get one who quotes a reasonable price.

Your bigger concern is what has gone wrong on your existing policy that they are covering you for £900 at 18 on an XJR. Have they got your age right?. Is the reg number correct, or do they think they are covering a Nissan Micra?

18 y/olds do not pay £900 to cover an XJR. Even £2362 sounds very cheap. Assume you live in the Scottish Highlands or some other very low risk area.

Definitely most 18 years will struggle to get £900 for anything unless they live in the Scottish country side will little traffic doing 3-4k a year

When does your current policy expire ? Probably a very good idea to carefully check the current policy schedule now for mistakes before you get pulled or get pranged laugh
