Bugger, speeding ticket, anything I can do?

This is getting a bit tiresome, 3rd time ive been pinged in the last 2 years, first two were 78mph on a dual carriageway, one of those situations where you speed up a bit to pass a car in front which is travelling marginally slower than you are, before pulling back in. Got a speed awareness course for the first and 3 points for the second.
I got a letter through a couple of days ago for 58mph in a 50mph limit in roadworks on the M27, at first I thought it must be an error as I’m quite careful in these limits, then realised that I had to accelerate to feed into a gap in the inside lane to exit the motorway.
Now, I admit I’m no saint, but in this case I feel a bit miffed, I think I know the answer! Is it worth appealing?

You are going to have to take the points, and if you don't want it to happen again then accept you get where you are going a few minutes slower but not overtaking a slower moving vehicle near the speed limit. I'm no saint I speed too and i've been caught in the past but it's the risk you take.

Be more careful is the only solution here.

Don't go pushing the "10% + 2" to the limit and you are likely to be fine. Plus some areas arent so generous either.

OP looks like a £100 and 3 points I'm afraid

Out of interest I am guessing the 2 previous ones were in a 60 zone, 78 in a 70 would not normally result in any enforcement

Edit to say Also neither would qualify for a course if they were in a 60, you might have your speeds wrong for those

I've tried the 10% plus 2" with a couple of ladies! Didn't work for me either!

If this was 58 in a 50 done with average speed cameras, which is what one usually finds in motorway roadworks areas that are limited to 50, then darting into a gap is not likely to have been the cause IMHO.
