Motorway marked cars and speeding prosecution procedure
Discussion
In a typical scenario where there is a marked car at the side of a motorway with an officer in the usual repose leaning over the door with detector gun (or whatever the hardware is) pointing it an oncoming traffic, how are speeding motorists pursued / prosecuted?
Are their details merely recorded and in due course NIPs issued in the post much like a fixed camera or van, or does the petrol car typically set off, pursue and pull offending motorists in the event that they detect speeding?

Where were you, and what speed were you doing? Are their details merely recorded and in due course NIPs issued in the post much like a fixed camera or van, or does the petrol car typically set off, pursue and pull offending motorists in the event that they detect speeding?

M25, rush hour, roughly 200 in old money. Is that relevant to usual operating and legally codified practices of enforcement? Fanx.
200 what? Not sure I get any of that, could be troll time, but not to worry,To answer your question, there would normally be an officer a mile or so down the road to pull you over, if on a motorway more likely to get a NIP through the post

Not totally clear - 'normally an officer down the road to pull' and 'if on motorway more likely to get an NIP' seem to be somewhat contradictory. In short, is it routine these days re motorway policing of this type to simply issue NIPs rather than pull?

But as it looks like you're a trolling t****r, I'm out

Totally clear mate, normally you would be pulled over further along except if it's on a motorway, not sure what's contradictory or hard to understand.

Actually, it wasn't at all clear. The 'except' bit you just added does help a bit in that regard. But given your general deportment, what remains unclear is whether you are a reliable source of information. So arguably no great loss. But as it looks like you're a trolling t****r, I'm out
It's not really a complicated question - do they normally point the 'gun' and notch up a load of NIPs. Or are they there to find cars to pull? Cars certainly still get pulled on motorways - often enough in recent years observed cars on hard shoulder mid-pull. But not clear what the general practice is these days with guns.

Another sock puppet account. It is sad really, why they even bother. Are they that sad they get their kicks making up stupid threads.
Sorry, what's 'made up' about asking about how this particular type of motorway policing works? And what's stupid about asking this question?Happy to be enlightened.
More likely than not he would have seen you coming a long time before you saw him, would have pinged you at a distance somewhere around 400 metres away, put the LTI gun down next to him and be ready waiting for you to go past before pulling out behind you, catching you up and pulling you over to deal with you there and then, a process which is far less demanding than ending off an NIP, waiting for it to come back then reporting for summons. If you didn't get pulled then the very high likelihood is you won't hear any more about it.
You will also find the traffic cops have a far more tolerant attitude towards speeding than the scamera vans, for example the speed limit we used to set on our shift back in the day was 92 on the motorway so anything over that would wake the gun up and you'd soon be talking to us.

If you were clocked over the posted limit and the officer got your number and wishes to issue process, then the registered keeper of the vehicle can expect an NIP to arrive in the next couple of weeks give or take.....
If the OP was actually clocked at "200", or even suspected of travelling at "200", then be it it 200 knots, 200 mph, 200 Kph, 200 metres per second, 200 cm per second, or 200 mm per second, I seriously doubt that they would have made it home to ask this question, without talking to the Police at the roadside first - Especially on the M25!4rephill said:

Didn't think I could have made that quip more obviously facetious, but I suppose the forum thirst for righteousness did for that! Props, peeps. Props.

You're really not helping yourself, and with such a condescending attitude, do you really expect any meaningful input to your original question?Didn't think I could have made that quip more obviously facetious, but I suppose the forum thirst for righteousness did for that! Props, peeps. Props.
