ID1 Form Completion
Discussion
Hi,
I need to have an ID1 form completed by a solicitor. I have the form as sent to me by my wife's sols, and have completed the part I need to do, but the remainder of the form needs completing by a solicitor in person.
I have just had a quote of £275 + VAT to do this which quite frankly is extortion!!
But trying to ring round it seems that many solicitors are not offering this service.
I see there is a possibility to do an ID1 check online and the cost seems much reduced. Do I bin the form I've started and start again from scratch with an online provider of this service?
Any advice gladly received thank!

Hi
I looked into this recently for my brother. I read that, because of the Covid situation, they were allowing ID verification by other means, such as by persons in certain occupations, like teachers, magistrates, etc. I'm not sure if this is still in force though.
I think you may find details here :-

Google Form ID1 and find a solicitor who charges £50 to do it via Zoom.I need to have an ID1 form completed by a solicitor. I have the form as sent to me by my wife's sols, and have completed the part I need to do, but the remainder of the form needs completing by a solicitor in person.

You're right, that is extortionate.
But trying to ring round it seems that many solicitors are not offering this service. But you don't need to use an ID1 at present. Because of the pandemic the Land Registry relaxed the rules and brought out an ID3 form - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/certifi...
This can be signed off by anyone who's known you for at least a year and is a `respectable' person. There's a list of approved people, and it's very similar to the people who can countersign a passport application - teachers, police officers etc.
However, it was a temporary move that may be withdrawn at any time, so buy now while stocks last!
