Bit of background, I ordered one of those ryobi garden blowers on 1st October, it arrived 3rd October a.m. it not being able to blow the skin off a rice pudding I returned it same day 3rd October p.m. they very kindly refunded the £137 to my account.
So far so good.
Now I’m getting emails saying I returned via Hermes an empty box and they going to charge me again if I don’t return it next week.
I haven’t got it!!!
Several phone calls, I've sent proof of posting, - thanks for that but you sent an empty box.
Am I stuffed?

I may be wrong, but I'm fairly certain when I did a return through Amazon some months back I took it to a local shop and they weighed and stickered the box there and then.

If that's the case, won't the now lower weighing box prove to Amazon that the box previously had an item in

I did take it to the local shop and he stickered it up, I’ll go back and ask if he remembers anything.

No weight listed on my proof of posting slip unfortunately. It’s my word against theirs at the moment. One man at customer services said it had changed delivery curriers somewhere along the line.

One of the return options is to take it to a Royal Mail drop off point, no printer required. £0.00.

Once they have it, it's no longer your problem!

I used the Hermes drop off option, same thing, but they insist the box was empty.

Could it be that a Hermes driver is now enjoying their free leaf blower?

Somebody's telling porkies.
Unfortunately the question is who?
How are you going to prove that you did send the item back & not just an empty box?

Your answer would be 'See you in court' but in this day & age are you likely to just have the amount taken from the account you used for the purchase?

Sadly Internet buying & selling has gradually turned into the world of the dishonest - goods not arriving/not as described/your situation etc etc - & I wonder how long it will be before people go back to making bigger purchases from shops for safety?

My thought exactly, he won’t like it though it wasn’t very good.

I'm astounded Amazon is blaming you?

I'd be onto Twitter I think...

Taking away price, ease of return is one of the major selling points for me, I'd be making a lot of noise about this.

True, the amount of stuff I buy from Amazon is ridiculous really, but it’s just so damn easy to buy on line, except when something like this happens. I’ve not finished with them yet.

I’ll give them another call tomorrow, then yes, Twitter, they don’t like bad press.

my brother had this with a £650 garmin watch, obviously it was robbed at the returns centre. fortunately he kept the royal mail slip that had the parcel weight on it but Amazon were not fun to deal with at that point.

Had the reverse, they delivered an empty box, took a long time to get a human at their end to sort it out.

As far as their system was concerned it was delivered, so my only option was return ‘it’.

I had the same with an expensive fountain pen which bizarrely was missing once I had got through the multiple layers of packing. I assume it had never made it into the box in the factory.

They didn't question it and just sent a replacement for next day delivery.

I'm surprised they're bothered. Must be an increase in people trying it on. I've not had things arrive before, got a refund similar principle I guess. I had an issue with a mobile phone returned this year. To be fair they gave me a full refund before I returned it, I got lazy with the return and don't think I posted it until a week or so after. They then started chasing up up sent a scan of the return slip but then kept chasing to say it hadn't arrived back.

I wouldn't like to say how much I spend with them, I had a pair of expensive asics trainers which fell apart after fairly light use. I complained and while wanst expecting it was given a full refund.

INAL but surely after you get the return slip that's your part of the agreement over. What happens to.ot after that is the courier/Amazons problem?

That's what i'd be arguing. You've fulfilled your obligation, ask them to prove the box was empty when posted. It's their courier, therefore their problem

If you can drill down through their website, use the chat function.

I have always had brilliant service from Amazon tbf.

I do this but the Hermes print in store, in my local co-op. I’ve returned numerous items over the years, some worth £400-£500 never had a problem.
Doesn’t help the OP though.

But logic doesn't even support that. You take a parcel to the drop off point to make a return. The receiver isn't validating what is in the parcel, and certainly not taking any responsibility for the correct contents being there.
