Mrs cass has a road accident last week and the car was seized by the police, I tried getting the car back but the recovery company said I need a release notice, when I asked how I get that he said I need to ask the police for it using the seizure notice reference number, she got no paperwork at all, anyone on here got any idea how I can get it back?
h when you’re being charged x amount a day storage and no way of settling it…£20 a day which adds up.
I can see it from the police’s point of view but people shouldn’t have to put their lives on hold because the officer happens to be on holiday.
I know we’ll get the usual about manpower shortages here but responsibly for releasing a seized car is surely a power that can be delegated.

Do the police routinely seize most cars involved in accidents, or is there more to this? It would be good to know why it was seized before leaping to his defence I can see it from the police’s point of view but people shouldn’t have to put their lives on hold because the officer happens to be on holiday.

Either someone has got muddled up or there is more to this story.
If your mrs was issued with a seizure notice then it is likely the car has been impounded for either a licence or insurance offence.
If it's a straight forward removal following an RTC then the only paperwork needed to reclaim the vehicle should be the V5 and Photo ID which must match each other.

Apparently it was seized because the driver of the car she hit was taken off in an ambulance, my car has a dented no plate, I’m not saying he was swinging the lead but.
It’s now five days after the event and we’ve still got no idea what’s going on, moh finally got hold of someone today and was told she would get an e mail off the copper today, still nothing.
The mot runs out of it on Friday and I’m meant to be driving it to brands hatch on Sunday for the BTCC. Looks like it’s not going to happen.

As a former cop if I decided to have a car towed and impounded I had to be able to articulate to my boss and the courts why I did it. I couldn't just say "I think I'll have it towed". Well I could, and risk a massive civil law suit.
The no reason and no paperwork sounds like BS to me, and possibly to other PH members.

If you seize a car you have to provide paperwork to the driver/RK.
This will explain why the cars been seized and how to reclaim it. If the cars been taken for mechanical inspection etc then this would be made clear to you.
I suggest if this has happened, you call the force dealing with it and ask to speak to whoever deals with vehicle seizures. This won't be an OIC it will be a team who should have sufficient information to assist you.
If of course this has actually happened.

Why would I come on here asking fellow phers about getting my car back if it didn’t happen, I know from reading the threads on here that there are ex and current police On here, I was asking how to get a seized car out of a compound with no paperwork. When I get it back I will post on here what happened then perhaps I will be believed.
