This isn't about doing the job of the police though its to reassure someone they are genuine.Who says a rather mentally sick copper isn't going to decide to kidnap me on his own (a man)?

If a police officer was going to do something inappropriate with a woman, do you think he'd place a video call with his control room beforehand? Couzens took steps to cover his traces, so it seems unlikely he would have done that. The control room would have asked what was going on (his grounds for arrest), and likely called uniformed officers to assist, or at least asked of his plans to bring them to a station.In theory it means that going forward, somebody in Sarah Everard's situation would know that if a video call was refused they could feel confident in calling for help from passers by, and we know there were plenty of people around.
Obviously though it would just make it slightly harder, eg. he would do it in a secluded area, or simply not pretend to be a police officer since that was just a took he had to make his crime easier.
It's something to reassure the public, or at the least lone women. Seems OK to me.
My force advertised that we would treat lone females in a car broken down as an attendence. Seemed reasonable to me. My directions to my staff was to treat everyone who was worried as a lone female. I once had a controller put in as heading, Two lone females. We knew what he meant.
One of the functions of the police is to reassure the public. Got no problem with that.
As pointed out, there's a way around such methods, but there's no point in not making it more difficult. A burglar will break into your house if they really want to, but that's no reason to leave your front door open.
