Hi All
Not sure this is the correct place to put this.
My driving licence ran out last year and we have been given a 12 month extension to renew it which is coming up soon.
I have a HGV but do not want to renew this side of it, just apply for a normal licence.
I have tried to contact DVLA but their automated system says there is no one available then they hang up.
I have gone to the post office and they told me i need to fill in a D1 form and send off but there is nothing on a D1 form to say just renew my licence.
I have been told i need to fill in a D2 form but that is to renew the HGV which i do not want to.
Has anyone done this and what do you advise?

Just do it online?

https://www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licence

Took less than a week to come through when I did it earlier this year.

To be frank I'd submit the D2 even though it's for Group 2, it will cover both licences, at present DVLA are prioritising Group 2 applications and leaving Group 1 to later. You can then indicate that you only want the car entitlement but at least someone will be looking at the application and it will be in the system.

I have bus and class 2 licences and you can't do those online, they have to be done via the form.

Relevance to the OP?

Probably because a Class 2 is a group C ( HGV rigid ) and the OP is commenting on presumably a HGV 1 ( Artic or CE ) so if a class 2 needs a form you can pretty much assume that a class 1 does..........

My assumption is that he was just talking about a standard car licence.

Whatever you do take good, clear copies of any licences you send to the DVLA and triple check the ones they send you back to make sure it has the correct entitlements ticked.

Am in the lost licence situation too, sent it off weeks ago, months maybe, heard not a jot. No idea why, just seems to be lost in the ether.

Hi All
If i fill out the one on-line I am pretty sure I will need a medical which should be fine but as i dont want the HGV licence anymore seems a bit pointless paying out for one.

DV8, please clarify.

Are you saying that, assuming you had a pre-1997 licence, (enabling car drivers to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tons), you lost that right because you have now lapsed your HGV (LGV) entitlement?

Yet, had you driven nowt but BMC Minis for the past 25 years or more, on just a car licence, you could still now legally drive trucks up to 7.5 tons?

Really?

If you had your C1 entitlement before 1997, you should have kept that entitlement (so-called ‘grandfather rights’) for personal use. For professional use, different rules may apply see.
