PayPal Question

I'm sure it's alright, but, essentially if I pay for something via PayPal on marketplace. I cover fees, is that me protected ?

I've spoke to the guy on the phone, who seems as genuine as someone over the phone can be and he's happy to ship.

Value £400-ish, unfortunately it's just too far to travel for a collection.

Normally I'm of that opinion, he said about Bacs which is definite no go but then said about PayPal. I've not really used it outside of eBay but assume it offers the protection to me as the buyer.

Not if you do it as family / friends

Safest bet if you really like it can the bloke list it on eBay for you and buy via eBay . Few extra quid but then you both have safeguards

It wouldn't be by friends and family, I'd pay the £14 PayPal fees.

The eBay way is an option and just pay alittle more

Paypal offers you the same protection as what ebay does, providing you pay for services/goods and not family or friends. The buyer will need to send as tracked, if you do not receive the item, you open a claim and will get your money back. If the items not as described, you open a claim via Paypal, the same way as you would via Ebay.

I'd be fine about using Paypal for this situation.

You already know it's likely to be a scam, that's why you are asking instead of just going with it.

What is the item? That would give more insight.

I don't think for a second it's a scam, nothing electrical, it's some brembo 4 pots, nothing exciting.
I just wanted a sanity check that I would in fact be covered.

I've bought and sold on ebay, gumtree & faceache marketplace and imo the trustworthiness & intelligence of buyers & sellers decreases from eBay to marketplace.

I personally wouldn't buy or sell anything on gumtree or marketplace except for a cash or bank transfer on collection.
