Parking Ticket - only slightly over

You can park in the car park and not actually use Waitrose, but in this case my wife did. And must have taken 5 minutes to find a space, so was "parked" for under the 2 hours. I haven't had a parking ticket for 20 years so this isn't the end of the world, or grounds for divorce. Although she did throw the ticket back at me and tell me to sort it as it is my car :-/

I suppose it would take you longer than 3 and a half minutes to find a space and park.
Don't get me wrong. I'd be hugely miffed as well and chances are if it were a warden-patrolled car park you'd be fine. But legally speaking I don't think you've got a leg to stand on. Or as George would have put it -Lt George said:
As far as I can tell you’re as guilty as a puppy sitting next to a pile of poo.

From CAB:

“It’s worth appealing if you were only 5 or 10 minutes late.
You should be given a few minutes after your parking runs out – called a ‘grace period’. ATA members must give you an extra 10 minutes before giving you a Parking Charge Notice – as should the council before giving you a Penalty Charge Notice. You should also be given a reasonable amount of time to leave a car park if you decide not to park.
A parking company might disagree with your appeal if they time your stay from the moment you entered the car park, rather than from when you parked. It’s still worth appealing because it’s free to informally appeal – and you have to do this before you can appeal to an independent tribunal or trade association.“

Britannia Parking, Waitrose. My wife went in at 11:47:44 and left at 13:51:12, less than 4 minutes over.
I know I could go to Pepipoo, etc, but is this worth appealing?
Ta.
If Waitrose (Britannia Parking) issued a parking fine (notice) 4 minutes before the expiry time and you refused to pay could Waitrose (Britania Parking) appeal saying you were nearly out of time.I know I could go to Pepipoo, etc, but is this worth appealing?
Ta.

Seems common with Waitrose - "nothing to do with us, guv, it's down to the landlord."Yet wife and daughter managed to spend more than 2hrs in Wickes during lockdown when the store was closed to walk-ins - got a penalty notice from their landlord's parking enforcement firm but it was pretty instantly confirmed as cancelled after calling the store.
So they can do it - they just choose not to.

It's always worth appealing, the absolute majority of these are unenforceable. The code of practice for Britannia's trade body will allow a ten minute grace period. They will doubtless also have failed to comply with the Protection of Freedoms Act that governs private parking.I know I could go to Pepipoo, etc, but is this worth appealing?

And yes, go to Pepipoo - you've already seen that many people on here don't actually want to help you. PH is not the right place to ask about private parking tickets.

IME Waitrose tend to be closer to town centres than Wickes (only a sample of 2 Waitrose and 1 Wickes I can think of off the top of my head, mind) so they probably get many more chancers either using the store then ambling around town for an hour or even worse, using the carpark and not using the store at all, then whining when they overstay by 4 minutes and get a fine than Wickes do…
I was gobsmacked Wickes (or "the landlord") had such a system - the store has its own car-park and is pretty isolated from everything else.If someone uses Waitrose for most of their shopping they could easily be spending £5-10K/yr. OK, they've got to do something so those shoppers can park at the store but it's appalling that the store claims it's nothing to do with them when they lease the place on their terms.
I personally think you should suck it up and pay. You (she) overstayed. I am sure it was not 2hrs just in Waitrose, she nipped to some other shops and was not precise on her arrival time/watching the clock closely enough, easily done. Why have the stress in your life of the appeal, pay it and move on. Technically you are in the wrong anyway, its not like she broke down or lost her car key or similar.

That's not an unreasonable observation. Most people here know that parking is a nightmare in many places, and that there are a significant number of people who, without firm enforcement, would take the piss (to be clear: this is a general comment and not meant to imply that this is the case in this instance). So yes, many here are unsympathetic to "how can I get off this ticket"-type questions. At the end of the day, two hours free parking at a supermarket is very generous and even if it weren't, complying with simple instructions isn't hard.
Brittania Parking are a member of the BPA whose code of practice says that 10 minutes grace at the end of the parking period should be applied.

Section 13.3
Where a parking location is one where a limited period of parking is permitted, or where drivers contract to park for a defined period and pay for that service in advance (Pay & Display), this would be considered as a parking event and a Grace Period of at least 10 minutes must be added to the end of a parking event before you issue a PCN.
