Friend has split from his wife 12 months ago. Has since sold their marital home and solicitors have the funds. They have 2 kids together.
Will solicitors handle a divorce with a bill at the end as he has currently run out of money but wants to get things sorted? Could the funds from the property be used as some sort of guarantee etc?

I suspect it depends. Fairly straightforward asset split where he is likely to walk off with tens of thousands, probably. Contentious divorce where he is arguing over five grand of equity, possibly not.

I doubt they will extend credit.

They will however I am sure introduce him to a litigation funder who will look at the case and lend against it with repayment on conclusion

When we sold a house recently, the solicitor took their fees from the proceeds before transferring the balance to us.

If your solicitor already has the funds why do they want their fees paying in advance and separately?
