There's a new electronic sign looking a bit like this just outside Booker airfield as you head towards Marlow.
It has an image of a 30 limit sign and says SLOW DOWN as you approach at over 30. But the road is currently a 40 limit, what's going on here? There's a junction and a bend shortly after the sign, so reason to slow down, but why imply a compulsory 30 limit when there isn't one?

Well, the long stretch of road from West Wycombe to Stokenchurch (currently a 60) is being reduced to 50 mph. There was public consultation, however they have decided to ignore that and reduce the speed limit anyway. The recent accident involving two cyclists is often quoted, however the conclusion just out from the court case was that speed was not a contributing factor.
In conclusion, expect the limit to drop shortly.

It doesn't. It cannot possibly comply with the signage regs. Especially in a series of 40mph signs/repeaters an electric sign that isn't on all the time will not produce an enforceable 30mph limit.BertBert said:

All road signs that utilize the circular red ring are mandatory, or road signs giving orders. A
motorists must abide by the instructions given in these regulatory signs to remain within the
law.
ADVISORY SPEED LIMITS

location of an advisory maximum speed limit sign varies, but can often bee seen on bends.
As the advisory speed limit is not contained within a red ring, it is the motorists choice of
