Despite F1 etc a little bored so checking out local news site and amongst cat stuck up tree or remembering when a Somerset woman kept a large horse inside her home, they had the Bath court report and sitting at the top was:

"A man who went nearly twice the speed limit has been stripped of his driving licence at Bath Magistrates' Court.
Ashley James King, 34, who hails from Coronation Avenue in Fishponds, Bristol, was caught speeding twice in two days on the M32.

On the first occasion, on Boxing Day 2020, King was spied doing 59mph on a stretch of the motorway where there is a 40mph limit.
The following day he took to the roads again and was caught going at 75mph on the same section of the M32 southbound.

When police asked King for his licence on February 1, in relation to the speeding offences, he failed to identify himself.
He was sentenced on Monday this week (December 6), receiving a five-year driving ban and hefty fines totalling £1,542.
The court record stated that his disqualification was "obligatory due to repeat offending" and he also got six points on his licence."

I was expecting an approx £1k fine for failing to identify the driver but not a five year ban.

I'm outraged there's a 40mph limit on a motorway (unless it was temp roadworks/ accident, etc)

It used to be 40 because the barrier was fked, not sure if that's still the case.

Yes barrier was the excuse given and never changed the limit after it had a touch of paint.

There is now a 40 limit all the way into Bristol with average cameras from Junction 2

One of my two sets of three points in nearly 40 years of driving were on that poxy stretch of motorway.

In fairness, I don't think I've ever averaged more than 20 on there.

The obvious question here is why was the case tried in Bath? Accused lives in Bristol, the crime took place in Bristol, and there's a magistrates court in Bristol

They heard his case in Bath so Banksy wouldn't sell t-shirts to raise funds for his defence. Fact. Heard it from an MP at a Christmas party.

The M32 from the M4 to Bristol is a joke. The only reason it's even a motorway is because the M4 end was converted from a roundabout to a junction in the shape of a roundabout... which still seems to cause confusion to people unfamiliar with the layout.

We are all awfully nice in Bath so our Magistrates tend to have nothing to do whereas Bristol is full of misdemeanants so some are shipped out to Bath?
Agree with M32 not fit to be called a Motorway, contrived speed limit and needs avoiding like the plague. Although all said it is better than 'our' 1950s A46 link to M4.

The viaduct the barrier is attached too is also fked, so the limit will never be raised back to 60mph. IIRC the plan once the central barrier and side parapets have been rebuilt is a 50mph limit.
