Hi All just looking for some advice, our skoda superb has just been reversed into. The car was parked on the road outside our home and someone left a note.

The door is damaged and won't close correctly there is also damage to the front wing

I have spoken to the person who left the note and they are getting back to us tomorrow with the insurence details.

Do we have to notify our own insurers? And if we do will it cost us more in the future.

Are we entitled to a courtesy car while ours is getting repaired? is this organised through our own insurance or the person who hit us?

Thanks All

Danny

Yes you have to notify your insurer but claim direct off the other driver's policy.
Call their insurance co directly.

No it shouldn't affect your premiums. I had similar 4 years or so ago.

BUT claim off other parties insurer don't accept offers of repairing the car and them paying NOT involving insurer. That will end in pain

Just give all the details to your own insurer, they should deal with it all.

I believe the advice to go direct to the third party insurer when liability is not in dispute is given so you can avoid claims management companies diving in and driving up the costs and offering eye wateringly expensive car hire scams. A fair few threads on here where people have been approached directly by the third party insurer and had a quick and satisfactory resolution.

Keeps all our premiums down in the long run.

Just tell your insurance and give them all the details and let them sort it.

You can tell your insurance company that you want them to handle it in house and not use an AMC.
They will give you some guff about delays in repaying any excess etc. to try and persuade you but just ignore it.

Also not sure why the other party needs to wait a day before giving you his insurance details. I would have expected
him to have had these to hand by the side of the phone.

As others have said notify your insurers. If you deal directly with theirs then it keeps costs down.

As for suspicion over the delay, perhaps it's a company vehicle. I know that no one would be getting my details until I could find someone at work etc.

Hi All

Thanks for all the advice, we recieved the insurence details yesterday. I expect courtesy cars are in short supply at the moment especially seen as we need an estate!

At least getting insurance details is a step in the right direction.
