Maybe they were impressed with your parents' and my previous terms of service and worry you and your brother won't measure up.

Top tip, they (jury service people) don't have access to the criminal records system, so if you "suggest" that you may be excluded due to a past issue they remove you from the list. The only time it is checked is at the actual selection point at the court, their job is to find suitable candidates. You don't need to have a criminal record and you don't need to lie, you just suggest that you may not be a suitable person. They add two and two together and come up with six.

I've been called 3 times. First, when I was 18/19, at the Old Bailey. Just a brilliant experience. The first day I turned up, fresh faced and in my suit, the guy on the desk thought I was the accused. 
And then again twice in quick succession in my 40s. The 3rd one I got out of because it was only about a year after I'd done the 2nd lot.

If you tell them you have a criminal record when you haven't in order to get out of jury duty, is that a criminal offence? OP, in my experience getting out of a second or subsequent jury summons is usually quite easy, I was called 11 years after my first time and simply said I was too busy at work which was true

I'm 56 and have never been called, neither has my wife. Same for my 4 siblings and their partners. Same for my parents.I never wanted to do it while I was working, but wouldn't mind doing it now I'm retired.
