A young relative of mine bought a car over the Christmas period for £1,100.
V5 appeared in order as was new MOT certificate & she was able to tax it immediately.
However, she just received a letter from DVLA stating that the car had been permanently exported out of the UK & that they can't issue a new V5 until she's completed a load of import paperwork....
It would appear the car was owned by an East European who (I'm guessing) returned to Poland or wherever during Covid & probably had to get the car taxed/insured etc to local regulations. The guy then returns to the UK & buys a new car.
Any thoughts? Will she get a massive VAT/import bill? Is the MOT/VED/Insurance even valid??
