This. Some insurers won't quote at all, some will quote if you are a close relative of the owner. But you should be able to find somebody who will cover you. Expect to pay more though as most insurers will see non-owners as a higher risk.deckster said:

I'm with NFU and they wouldn't let me in insure a car that I wasn't registered keeper of (It was a car belonging to my son, which he wasn't using and he didn't have it insured)
Some are ok with it. My partner insured my old car with Direct Line when I got a newer car. The documents said she was neither the owner or keeper.
I still owned the car and nothing had changed other than her now being the main driver so it was the most accurate description.
