100 mph with no drivers license

Scottish papers are telling the story of LIDL recycling boss on £150K who was stopped for speeding at 100mph.

He was banned from driving so produced a friends licence from his wallet however police noticed another licence in his wallet so he was arrested.

Can the police search your wallet? Just wondering

Not sure they can search your wallet without arresting you but if they don’t believe you are who you claim to be you can be arrested anyway.

What an idiot! What would his "mate" whose licence he borrowed have done when the court date came through the post box?

I am surprised a company the size of Lidl don't check driving licences, services, MOT, insurance etc etc every year. We have to prove we are fit to drive and our cars are all up to standard and road legal every year, someone in finance keeps a spread sheet with all employees details and they chase you to provide the information.

I once a long time ago knew someone who was banned for drink driving but still insisted on driving. He got stopped and gave a false name and address. He was over the limit so was taken to the station. After tests and stuff he was allowed to go so phoned his girlfriend to collect him. She went to the station and asked for him by his real name. It didn't work out well. He kept on driving though even after having 2 bans, even drove to court when he was given his second ban. I then decided not to know him anymore.

Not seen the article but unless driving was part of his paid duty's why would they check?

Scotland has different laws so can't comment on when they can/cant search, but it could be as simple as they've seen another licence when he's getting his friends out of his wallet. It's common for people to have a couple in there.

I had to supply all my details to my company so that I was covered to use a pool car. Driving wasn't technically part of my duties but an occasional visit to a customer or going to pick up fish and chips when the team were working late covered all this.

Presumably (TBH I haven’t seen the article either) as a ‘recycling boss’ part of his working day will include travelling between stores so a licence check would be prudent if not a necessity.

As an aside when I drove for a living we had to hand in our licences yearly for a check then that stopped when they had the means to access the records themselves.

Companies have a duty of care to ensure that their employees are not requested or allowed to do something illegal, such as driving whilst suspended or uninsured. For the last 10-15 years my employers requested sight of my licence and class 1 business cover insurance or I would not have been allowed to use my own car for business.

A while back one of our mobile engineers got banned from driving, but didn't tell anyone and carried on driving round doing his job. However, one night he got pulled over resulting in a call to our manager, who wasn't happy. He has checked the engineers licence when he started, but not since and as it wasn't company policy to do regular checks, he got away with it. The engineer kept his job and got sent to the sin bin workshop, where anyone losing their licence was sent to keep them gainfully employed until they got their licence back.

Not quite the same but the company I work for has never asked to see a license. Its only when I asked them did they want a copy they said it's up to you.

Interesting that apparently both licences had "the same photograph". I wonder if the DVLA has ever run facial profiling on the licence photos to detect the same photo on different licences? Also interesting that the second "real" licence was a provisional - is that possible when disqualified?

For us it covers anyone with a company car, access to a pool car, car allowance or anyone travelling to multiple sites. Also if you are claiming millage expenses you get picked up. As above its duty of care and bringing company into disrepute if you are breaking the law.

I guess so, if you're being detained in handcuffs and they want your ID then they will get your wallet out your pocket to see it, they won't give you the choice.
