Why do traffic wardens have to put tickets on vehicle?

It seems so archaic. Cameras take photos of speeding cars and have done for years. A warden walking around with a camera seems far more sensible.

This. Being a traffic warden is a pretty miserable job, so being 50m down the road and seeing someone you've ticketed getting back to their car is the only bit of joy they get. I'm not even a traffic warden, but I fking love seeing people get back to their car and finding a ticket.

I don't think it's the job "anyone" will get, it usually takes a certain type of person.....they probably quite enjoy it, because otherwise they wouldn't do the typical things like giving tickets immediately, giving you a ticket 1 minute past your expiration time when you're very clearly loading up the car, etc.

How's the parking payment done? If it's pay and display presumably it has to be a physical check.

Around here the on street parking is all either residents permits or pay at a machine where you enter your number plate, meaning parking enforcement can be done by just driving a camera car up the street every so often, and ending fine in the post. Agree it's less of a visual deterrent to anyone else though, and judging by how many cars get clamped when they decide to have a clamping day in the summer maybe a better deterrent is needed.

I can think of worse jobs. You're out walking in the fresh air every day, and you are doing a useful job. People don't like them, but without them, given how many selfish fkers there are, out roads would be gridlocked by people parking wherever they chose to.

The idea of it is idylic, but the reality is most Parking Wardens are not employed by councils operating in a tightly (well, for a parking agency) regulated way.

Most wardens are operatives for PPCs like Parking Eye or ECP and seem to actively enjoy trying to screw every day motorists over, otherwise they wouldn't operate in such questionable ways - probably get quite a throb on at the sight of watching someone pay for a ticket but then park in a bay which is allocated to another business or unit but is not labelled on the car park itself.

Absolutely not. Like the type of people who laugh when a Ferrari, Porsche, etc is keyed by some fkwit. I hate the persecution of motorists in this country and would warn anyone of impending doom.

There's a bit of a leap from being the victim of a criminal act (getting your car keyed) to getting rightly fined for violating the rules yourself. It takes a special kind of "war on the motorist" weirdo to equate those two.

Getting a parking ticket is not persecution of the motorist. Living in London, my journeys are frequently hampered due to idiot parking by people who won't get caught. I'd be happy to see an increase in the numbers of traffic wardens.

Close family member was a traffic warden. Would do all he could to stop people getting a ticket, up to a point. Some people just don't listen.

V v v rarely gave a ticket. What did he care? He got paid and didn't have hassle off of drivers.
If he did give a ticket, it's because they insisted on parking even after he'd told them.

Is that "certain type" someone who does the job we pay them to do?
