Received a NIP in the post this morning because I exceeded the speed limit on the Cribbs Causeway section.
My issue is this - yes I know I was over the limit however I dispute the speed on the NIP.
Is it worth arguing & disputing the speed, how would I go about disputing the claimed speed & has anyone actually successfully disputed the claimed speed?

Even if you prove your speed was different to that shown in the NIP all you would be doing is confirming that you were exceeding the speed limit.
I can’t see it worth the effort and expense, hopefully you will get offered a speed awareness course.
The only time I can see it worth the fight is if the speed on the NIP would result in a large fine/points and your real speed would only result in a minor fine/points.

IIRC there is only 1 camera in each direction on that stretch. Not having a pop at the op, but really its well marked that there are cameras, the speed limits are clear and the cameras very visible.
Always amazes me at how often I see the cameras flash on that stretch, people must be either blind, stupid or both.

I just don't agree with the claimed speed.

How are you proposing challenging the NIP speed? What clear proof can you show that will effectively challenge the accuracy of the camera? Also, will ypu claim a misprint on the NIP?

Fully aware I had exceeded the limit.
I don't have any idea how I could challenge the speed which is why I asked the question.

What speed does the NIP claim?
What speed are you claiming you were doing?
This will give an idea of the magnitude of differences you are questioning and help in your chance of getting a result.
Remember, the cameras do have a trigger point above the speed limit not just the 50 ( usual 10%+2). So 56 might be ok but 57 not.
Add in the accuracy of the camera versus the accuracy of your speed measurement device.
It is a very difficult argument to claim your method is more accurate. I remember one case years ago where a scientist was using state of the art speed gear in his car and convinced the court his was more accurate ( high end kit) and he got a result.

Mate of mine went to court some years back, accused of doing 90-odd in a 70, he was sure he was doing only 80.
Problem is, he was guilty of the same offence, even if the sentencing would have been different.
He'd have been better off pleading guilty from the start.

A quick google suggests being able to see camera images before going to court varies from force to force.
My feeling would be, unless they are saying some seriously naughty speed which puts you into a more serious offence and more than 3 points, just accept it.
I don't think the camera will even trigger at 75. I've wombled through cameras at 71 on the GPS and had people waft past me and not get flashed.

Still not clear if it was 75 in a 70 or if there was a lower limit in force??? 75 seems awful low for a camera to trigger in a 70 limit. Use that stretch of motorway occasionally for work and usually have the cruise on at 80 which is 75/76 on the sat nav and never been flashed.
75 in a 70. And yes, the cameras flash regularly on that stretch of the M5.I wouldn’t have assumed the cameras would activate at 75 in a 70. You sure it wasn’t a temporary 60?

You would have to prove that a Home Office approved device failed, i.e. a technical defence, which would be expensive and open you up to CPS costs etc. It obviously isn’t sufficient to just say “I wasn’t going that fast though”.
