Anyone successfully had a lane marking changed?

The council have just repainted the lines on a roundabout near me. However they have changed the lane that I use every day from left/straight on, to left only.
Problem is it's a two lane roundabout, and the other lane I now have to use has another exit which is often backed up, so there is often a long stationary queue in the lane on the roundabout. In other words I now end up stuck in the queue for the stationary westboard carriageway, even though I'm trying to join the free flowing eastbound carriageway. Meanwhile there is an empty lane to the left I could use to bypass the queue.
Obviously I could ignore the painted signage on the road, but I wondered if anybody has ever managed to get this changed. If so do you have any good tactics?
I've contacted my local highways dept and so far got nowhere.

Check with the council if that location is in an Air Quality Management Area. If so, focus your argument on congestion not helping them meet their target of improving air quality.
Even if there isn't an AQMA you could maybe explain that air quality will be negatively impacted by increased congestion which could be relevant if in a residential area.
Plan B - get your local councillor on side as well as the portfolio holder for transport and environment.

Left lane was and still is always free flowing, so no benefit to left turning traffic gained from the sign change.

Turn left, do a turn in the road, turn left again. I don't think anyone monitors these things but they might put a camera in place if people start to take the piss.
There's a roundabout near me where the straight ahead was the slow traffic and people would shoot down the left lane and then cut in often forcing their way in. Then police started monitoring and pulling over drivers. Then the council put in a camera on a lamp post.

I have the opposite problem - a roundabout I use on a regular basis has slow moving traffic turning left and I’m going straight on. There are no markings. I wrote to local highways and they had an interesting response - “there aren’t two lanes” they said rather unhelpfully.
In fact the first response to me was a response to somebody else’s question about a pedestrian crossing- again their response was that is wasn’t a pedestrian crossing.
I’m beginning to think Newmarket is a Russian outpost…

I am with the OP, roads need to operate as efficiently as possible from an environmental and economic perspective.
Roads are clogged up enough as it is.
I regularly get held up on a red light waiting to turn right with nothing coming the other way, and then just as traffic arrives from the other direction, their light goes red and mine goes to green - frustrating all round
