Hi everyone, I think you know where I'm going with this one ... Was doing 75-80mph today on the A50 uttoxeter (dual-carriageway with national speed limit of 70mph) before I spotted the mobile speed camera van on bridge up ahead of me, took my foot of the gas and saw my speedo drop to 75 then 70 as I went under the bridge.. Been wondering ever since what my true speed was and whether I can expect a fine in the post anytime soon?

Depending on your car it will be between 3 to 5mph below at 80 so you maybe OK.

As you see them they usually already have you!
They won't NIP you until 79mph.
I would gamble on you being certain in 14 days?

So I did a test after while running the Waze app and it looked like speedo 80mph was 76-77 gps speed. I guess I just have to wait and see frown

If your the registered keeper. If leased, you'll have to wait for the lease company to pass it on.

Are you sure they’re that lenient?

Then you are off Scott Free.
10% +2 mph is when it starts.
Anything below and you are OK.

It's not a big deal if you're a few MPH over but if you're going to stress like this then it might be better to stick to speed limits in future.

You're probably right in that he's OK. But you're wrong to state that "it starts" at 10%+2. That's a oft-repeated number but in the eyes of the law the limit is the limit, and you can be prosecuted for 1 mph over. It's unlikely for sure, and 10%+2 is a good rule of thumb, but there is nothing to say (and certainly not 100%) that you are safe so long as you only speeding a bit.

Different forces have different rules when it comes to 10%+2 even if the majority seem to stick to it, so it's probably not best to assume you can sit on that exact number. That said you're not going to get NIP'd for 75mph or so (i.e. not indicated 80).

In my experience, vans seem to be a lot stricter, and why wouldn't they be...

What does that mean?
Camera vans?
Stricter than what?
Stricter than 10% + 2mph?
What's your experience?

I think he means stricter than humans, I have experienced no difference between vans and static cameras - I have a 79mph ticket from each of them. Swines biggrin

I think he was trying to avoid typing all the letters out.

If the OP was in a van, his speed limit is 60mph on a d/c, not 70mph. Almost certain prosecution if he was doing 70mph+

Yes. I get that. But the only van mentioned is the van on the bridge as far as I can see...?
