V5 Car Colour?

Looking at a 1k snotter and hoped I’d found the perfect one, unfortunately when I check on the gov site it says the car is green, but it’s definitely silver. If I was to do a cheap HPI check I assume it would show the same thing, is there any way to find out if the Gov site is wrong? I only ask as it certainly doesn’t look like it’s had a full spray job and if it has it’s a bloody good job.

It's free to update the colour on the v5. So question is to ask why the seller hasn't done it, or is it a stolen car with non stolen plates

I had something similar with a car a few years ago which I thought was blue but the V5 said silver. It turned out the colour was called something stupid like ‘lake silver’.

The V5 stated colour on certain vehicles doesn't always match.
I believe some Smart vehicles are colour classified by their Tridion cell, usually silver or black, whilst the body panels could be bright red or yellow.

Unfortunately I never checked the vin number so couldn’t say (he has V5 and both keys). He said the likely mix up will probably be down to Volvos paint description and has now sent me extra photos of the car, at different times of the day which actually make the car look light green.

I’m about to run a quick HPI check but it’s confusing which one to choose as there are so many different ones and as it’s only a grand I didn’t want a full all singing dancing one, any advice on a middle of the road check anyone?

Seriously is it worth pi**ing about and spending money, as you said it’s only a grand, if it looks straight, runs ok and has a decent length ticket just buy it. You can check the vin matches when you pick it up, if in the unlikely event it doesn’t then walk away

I’ve got a KTM250 enduro bike. It’s orange - well tbh due to a graphics change is more black than orange, but it’s orange on the V5. It’s always been orange.

On the MOT certs and site it’s white. MOT man says it sometimes does this - you’d think that coming from the dvla it’d be the same on both.

No idea how you’d change it.

Thanks everyone. Bought the car and spent a tenner getting an HPI check to confirm everything is as it should be. I’ll have a look at the vin number tomorrow before I hand over the cash.

That's definitely to do with the Volvo paint codes which I'm sure are totally random. I used to have an XC70 which also said green on the V5 but was most certainly not green; it was a sort of metallic, very light browny silver. I'd describe it as silver for simplicity and everyone would get it. One of the best cars I ever owned, but it wasn't green! It's a Volvo thing.

The DVLA only uses general colour descriptions. They don’t use maker’s description ( Corsa Red would be noted as red for example), nor even more detail such as RAL code.
In your case I would guess that any colour change was not updated to DVLA.
There might be other reasons though.

I had an 04 plate Focus which anyone walking past would have said was silver. Apparently Henry had put a green tinge into the paint mix so in the right light it was greeny silver and the V5 colour was green. It was only two years old at the time.
Either way it was a bu**er to match after a woman in a MINI tried to share my roadspace.
