Going through a Red 45 Seconds Too Late
Discussion
Hi,
My friend just received a Notice of Intended Prosecution for going through a red light 43 Seconds after it had gone red.
He's 17 and shortly passed his test, I'm unable to find if he is able to either:-
Thanks.

- do a red light awareness course
- 3 points + fine
- 6 points + fine (= disqualification)
Thanks.
He'll have to wait and see what options he is given.Time to suck it up, learn something and not repeat it.The fact he had no idea he'd run a red light is worrying but likely be down to lack of experience. We've all made mistakes like this when we started driving.Sometimes a nicking for something early in your driving career can be a good thing as your concentration levels rise and tend to stay there. You have realised you are not invincible.
I feel for the guy but he could've caused a massive accident.Learn and move on.

Okay cool, I assume they cannot challenge this for being such an excessive time past? Think he was more worried about the 6, as mentioned he can’t remember doing it, he hasn’t seen any photos yet but maybe he just went over the white line.

Are you sure he wasn't just a few seconds early for the next green light?
If you are being serious, I was 3 seconds through a red light and got 3 points and a £400 fine. There were (IMO) mitigating circumstances but i just took it on the chin and put it down to experience rather than argue the toss and try to get off it.

Understandable , he’s just worried he’ll get 6 points.

To clarify , he knows he did wrong lol. He just wants to know will he get 3 or 6 points to his licence.
As 6 will result in disqualification.
