MID update / private plate

Afternoon all,

Just a quick one, that hopefully someone will be able to advise on.

I assigned my newly acquired private plate to my car yesterday - I called my insurance broker to make the change to my docs and they just told me to email the details and they'd take care of it. Great.

I am now worried about a police stop - I've just checked the MID and the new plate is not coming up insured, nor is the old plate still showing as insured. If I get a stop, how likely are the police to uplift my car? I have all of the documentation for the car on the old plate, I also have the email from DVLA saying I can put the new plate on the car, and the car is otherwise regimental, MOT, tax etc.

Have I just been watching too much interceptors?

Overthinking it if you have the documents and you aren't obviously a scrote. I'd avoid drawing too much attention to yourself though, i.e. anything that could be perceived as anti-social driving, as they could be difficult.

But to be honest nowadays the chances of even seeing a Police car are pretty slim.

Youll be fine, I got stopped twice for no insurance, once when the car was only 2 days old and covered by both my insurance and the free 7 day insurance and once when I had changed plates.

Both times explained the situation to them and was on my way after about 5 minutes.

Thanks guys, in fairness I got a tug when I bought the car for the same thing, it wasn't taxed either and they just checked my cover note and told me to tax it when I got home.

You’ll be fine. It will only be seized if you can’t provide insurance details at the roadside (onus is on the driver to prove they are insured not for the police to prove they aren’t).

Keep your documents with you (screenshots will be fine), if you have your old certificate as an email as well along with the change of plate details you’ll be fine.

Worse case is they’ll either give you a producer or call the insurance company at the roadside.

It won’t be seized from what you’ve said.

MID updates uploaded by brokers can take up to 72 hours to appear on askMID, unfortunately.
