I've received a PCN for 53JC Failing to comply with a restriction on vehicles entering a pedestrian (cycle zone) zone.

This occurred on Staveley Road, Hounslow. The restriction has been in place since Jan 2022 as far as I can see, it is an 'experiment' to see if it stops the roads being used as a short cut. I have driven down this road dozens of times over the last 30 + years and was not aware of the 'new' restrictions, I did not see the signs, was not really looking.

However. I cannot make out the detail of the sign from the picture, I cannot find any detail on line, Google Streetview is too old, predates the restriction. I could drive back and take a look but its a long way to go.

I don't think the contravention code is correct, this is not a pedestrian and cycle zone. It is a restricted zone, allows registered permit holders through, buses, cycles etc.

Anyone local who can take a pic of the sign?

The red circle w the car and m/c means no motor vehicles. The writing below will give times/days the restriction is in force.

It happened in Chiswick, not Hounslow. Hounslow Borough and the first reply is right the no motor vehicles sign is clearly visible in that photo, to make a portal entry I expect there to be one on the other side of the road obscured in the photo by a tree. Google comes up with plenty of hits

https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20053/transport/2...

Bang to right by the looks of it.

Retarded idea btw.

Yes I understand have done lots of searching and found the relevant sites. Just can get a clear image of the sign.

The contravention code is for a Pedestrian Zone, I don't think the sign says 'Pedestrian Zone', hence I think they are using the wrong code so I may be able to challenge.

Just need a clear image of the sign.

I think you can make out that it's a red circle with a car and m/c inside - do you really need to see more?

Code matches the chart of signs showing vehicle types, times etc and described as a Code 53.
I think you are looking for some minute point to use as a get-out.
I doubt one exists. You either didn’t see the sign or didn’t check what it said, passing it into the controlled zone within the times of restriction.

Even from that distance I can make out that the sign says "pedestrian and cycle ZONE".

It's the only top text within TSRGD that could possibly match the image.

Even if it said "ducks crossing ahead", the sign underneath it is clearly no motor vehicles. So unless somehow they've cocked up the time restrictions, you should be driving as if you cannot proceed along that road, until you establish that you, in fact, can.

I'm pretty sure you're banged to rights.

i’ve been done by this sign/ road , i think it was a £ 60 fine ,
i had to go and look at a job just off that road ,so i went at 6.30 pm
priced up the job and went home, i too didn’t see the sign
i got the job off the customer ( pre fine coming through the letterbox)
but i had to tell them i wasn’t going to do it as you couldn’t drive down the road unless you get to their house before the restrictions and leave after 7pm
it doesn’t allow visitors in the area so how are you going to work around that area !

A road you can't drive down, we really are going insane

Note that drivers have a choice between the motorway and and the all purpose road.

If you truly believe that access restrictions on certain roads are silly...

Oh, if you want to argue about safety as a legitimate reason for a ban on cycling along a motorway, then the site the op was caught at is a school street. The idea is to encourage children to walk/cycle/bus to school instead by removing the hazard of motorists, in an area with lots of vulnerable, squishy, silly children.

And, ironically, to make motorists' lives better, because if you remove a good chunk of the school traffic from the roads my experience is that driving becomes much more pleasant.

In my OP I said I didn't see the signs.

Yes I'd like to see the details, times etc. If there is a way of contesting the PCN then I will, if not I will pay up.

Thanks maybe you eyesight is better than mine, I can't make out any of the writing on the sign from the pic they sent, just Zone.

Yes I fully expect it to be similar to the sign you posted , but would like to double check, if there is a way of contesting it I will.

Yes I think that's it, thanks. Looks like I'll be £65 lighter.
