I’m guessing there’s no reference of the vehicle in your rental agreement because you’re looking at a printed document that was handed to you when you picked up the initial vehicle.
Does the reg match the type and colour of the replacement car you were given? Was the fine issued for a road you’d likely have been on at the time given?
Pretty sure you’re just being facetious, and apologies if you’re not, but the rental company will have very accurate records of who had their car and when. No doubt your receipt would detail the cars you were driving.
The only question then that likely needs answered is: was it you, or the person that came out to swap over the car? (assuming they came to you)

Not that they’ve supplied so far. Breaking the speed limit doesn’t sound like something I would do, genuinely, only thing I can think is to wait and see if any camera photo shows who was driving.

We’ll both. Anything I have (electronically) doesn’t show the vehicle reg in question. Nothing they’ve provided so far does either. It only states the registration, not the make or colour, so I don’t know if it matches up.
I went to them to swap the car, but did have to wait about 45 minutes. I assume them went out to refuel it or something. The location from the fine is about 75 miles away so unlikely it was them (unless they did drive REALLY fast).
I’m in a position where I’m on the hook for a vehicle I don’t know if I was driving, and that there’s seemingly no documentation or evidence that I was.
