Guy who viewed my car then crashed into my car

Hi, im selling my Corvette at the moment and had a viewing yesterday.
The guy had to view move the car he turned up in so that we could go out for a test drive.
He managed to reverse into my car leaving a small mark..
I believe he is seriously interested and hes going to let me know by the end of today, having said if he doesnt buy the car he will cover the cost of repair.
I have his name and his registration number.
Should i have escalated this? To insurance?
I feel like i was in catch 22.
If he decides to be difficult, can i go to insurance 2 days after the event?
Basically, what should i have done/ WWYD?

Some insurance companies say you need to report within 24 hours but I've known people report 4-5 days later without issue. There was one lady I know who had the smallest of bumps but she was genuinely in shock - these things do happen and insurance companies are usually understanding over stuff like this.
It's a risk to delay reporting but I don't think it will be a big one.

If the guy is genuine, then give him a chance. Sounds like it'll work out either way. If there is no further contact, then call insurance.
A young girl rear ended my JDM Impreza STI (relatively low speed) and caused damage to rear bumper and supports etc. She was keen to pay for it to save paying excess and increased premiums for making the claim. She then was hit with the inevitably high cost of parts/labour and decided to go via insurance a few days later. All worked out, no questions asked.

Had a guy scuff my rear bumper while I was sat in the car. Agreed to my using the most expensive body shop in the area as he'd used them before and knew the quality of their work. Maybe he makes a habit of scuffing bumpers, who knows? All done amicably without insurers being involved at all! But, there again, I didn't claim for whiplash

Blimey... i'd have been a tad embarrassed if I'd reversed into the vehicle i was about to view 
A pal made me an offer on my car recently. As he went to drive off in his ultra reliable Vauxhall, the ignition barrel decided it no longer wanted the key entering it. Thirty minutes of wrestling with the steering wheel later, the barrel concedes defeat and the car starts.
We both look at the 666 registration plate staring back at us, on the car being sold and laugh.... In his case, I think either my car doesn't want him to leave, without buying it. Or more likely the driving spirits are warning him of what a tired TVR has in store
