Whats the penalty for being a pedestrian on a motorway

Can't blame the fans for wanting to be here now, but it definitely may be dangerous to walk along a motorway like that. Some might say the traffic management hasn't been up to it, but if I'd been stuck in a traffic jam due to this I think I'd be looking back in anger at the wasted time.

Read about this and the organisers should be asked the questions, and be made to pay for the police attendance after the gig. Made plenty out of the gig but very little organising seems to have been done over getting people off site, probably got their money by then so they'd already left!

If it makes them feel any better, getting out of the car park was no easier for Oasis 90's gig. Seem to remember that was a couple of hours before the missus nudged me/ woke me up and said "they're moving"

£76 for a 14 mile taxi that she flagged down, was a bit steep. Flagging down, would suggest a metered taxi to me, so I guess they were stuck in traffic for a while.

I was working at the festival. The locals access at the back of the site for pedestians was about 3 foot wide, and about 2,000 people tried to get through this at 11pm. How nobody died I am not sure, no lights, people climbing through a sticky marsh with old metal fencing on it, queue jumpers being attacked. On coming out last night I saw a massive stream of urine coming down the road, and about 200 blokes pissing up a fence. In fact people were pissing all over the shop all night, together with the litter. My god the litter. Glastonbury has clamped down on this now, you don't piss anywhere other than a toilet, you don't litter. But Knebworth can get away with it? I think that Knebworth House let itself down allowing this to happen, and the Council environmental dept must have had people on site who could see this going on.

Someone in my team came to the festival by running over the A1, when there is an underpass very close to where she crossed. And god knows how much human excerment will be in the local environment from all the people sleeping in their cars and vans in the back roads. The local sports hall had to be opened because people could not get trains. 2-4 hours to get out of the car park as the exits are narrow.

They will be sending the herd of deer at Knebworth back out onto urine soaked land, I know all the litter gets picked up but it can't be safe for the herd and local wildlife as you can't get every last bit of it up. Just from an environmental viewpoint this concert never shoud have happened, in addition to the organisational errors.

Knebworth is bad enough to get in and out of on a normal car show, let alone massive gig. It's never had the correct transport links to sustain such events and will continue to create issues like this every time one is hosted, unless it is massively developed with a huge drop off section, light rail to Stevenage train station, it's own four lane motorway.......

Both my brothers fondly recall sitting on the kerb of the A1 following the Zep gig in the 1970’s.

It’s fitting that these long standing traditions are kept alive - hasn’t this whole weekend been about this?

A family friend with a daughter in Stevenage say she has let her spare room for £350 per night, plus another £50 for a space on the driveway. Bargain.

I expect someone will be picking over a Traffic Management Plan tomorrow with a view to improvements.

While stopping on an motorway isn't the smartest idea, if this was indicative of the level of chaos before the gig had even started then perhaps there's more the police could have thought about doing than run around issuing penalty fines.

Saw people this morning when I was walking the dogs looked like they had been at the gig god knows where they slept? Dogs went up to them gave them a sniff and came running back….

We got caught up in the chaos when Robbie Williams played there in the early 2000's.
Traffic ground to a halt for hours and people were just getting out of their cars and climbing fences, then going cross country to the gig.
One small bonus, whilst getting out of the car for a stretch I found a Snap On split pin remover in the central reservation, which I still have to this day!

I think that this was the first Knebworth concert for many of the attendees who are also a touch too quick to jump onto twitter to have a moan that they weren’t able to enter or exit the gig attended by 85,000 people in a matter of minutes. Everyone else just knows you just sit it out / have an afterparty / sleep in the car.

Perhaps next time they will take the camping option, or leave early. Or even better tweet something positive about the music rather than a whinge about a sodding car park

We were there yesterday and travelled on a coach from London. Complete gridlock on the way out, a tiny lane hard enough to get a car down never mind probably over 100 coaches, which then went all the way back round the estate. We were told to be back at the coach by 11.30, we didn’t move till 1.30. Shambles.

I’m a local , live at the bottom of old Knebworth lane , it’s was carnage all over the place , but I had a great time at the concert , people weren’t walking down the actual live lanes , just dropped off and then walking down the grass verge or edge of hard shoulder, still not ideal.

Local enough to hear the gig, far enough away to not be overly affected by the extra traffic.

Eldest daughter works at a hotel near Ware, couple of lads from Essex staying there to go to the gig, couldn't get a taxi, so missed the gig.

Google Maps suggests about 3 miles/1hr walk, so not too bad really! Obviously whether there's space on the train...
